The author constructs a new kind of rational operators approximating functions with endpoint singularities by algebraic weights in \([0,1]\). Improving some relative results due to \textit{B.~Della~Vecchia} [Result.\ Math. 43, No. ~1--2, 79--87 (2003; Zbl 1056.41015)], the author obtains a new direct (Theorem 2), respective converse result (Theorem 3) involving higher moduli of smoothness.
