Summary: We propose an elementary approach to Zudilin's \(q\)-question about Schmidt's problem [\textit{W. Zudilin}, Electron. J. Comb. 11, No. 1, Research paper R22, 8 p. (2004; Zbl 1126.11012)], which has been solved in a previous paper [\textit{V. J. W. Guo}, \textit{F. Jouhet} and \textit{J. Zeng}, Acta Arith. 127, No. 1, 17--31 (2007; Zbl 1116.05004)]. The new approach is based on a \(q\)-analogue of our recent result in [the authors, J. Number Theory 132, No. 8, 1731--1740 (2012; Zbl 1300.11005)] derived from \(q\)-Pfaff-Saalschütz identity.
