Recently, \textit{W. Y. C. Chen} and \textit{A. M. Fu} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 134, No. 6, 1719--1725 (2006; Zbl 1085.33014)] established the semifinite forms of several \(q\)-series identities using a surprising new method. Inspired by this method, the authors derive Dougall's \({_2H_2}\)-series identity directly from a nonterminating form of Saalschütz's theorem in the same way.
