The authors use a macroscopic approach to justify the derivation of a viscous free/congested zones two-phase model from the isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations with a singular pressure playing the role of a barrier. The main attention is payed to the one-dimensional case for which the global existence of regular solutions is established.
