The author constructs an example of a compact operator of the third kind in the space \(L_p\quad (p\neq 2)\) that is not similar to any integral operator of the first or second kind. Even not every linear equation of the third kind in \(L_p\quad (p\neq 2)\) can be reduced to an equivalent integral equation of the first or second kind.
