The paper under review deals with Arakelov theory on arithmetic surfaces, and especially with a generalisation of the Hodge-index theorem. Namely the main result is an upper bound for the self-intersection of a nef Cartier divisor. The proof uses the Zariski decomposition developed previously by the author [Publ. Res. Inst. Math. Sci. 48, No. 4, 799--898 (2012; Zbl 1281.14017)].
