This article introduces a COordinate COnvenion System (COCOS) for parametrizing a tokamak. Fixing two of the parameters, the remaining 16 cases are specified and several relations between them are discussed. A table displaying which reference (or computer code) uses which COCOS index is given. Moreover, this table is available online. Transformation rules for the variables described by different COCOS indices are presented.
