The authors of the article under review generalize the notion of \({\mathcal Q}\)-classes \(C_{Q_1.Q_2}\) by considering general \(2\times2\) matrix functions \(Q_1\) and \(Q_2\). This leads to an algebraic approach to the study of the intersections of \({\mathcal Q}\)-classes. The results are applied to factorization problems and to Toeplitz operators.
