In this paper, the authors develop some criteria for links to be related by a single crossing change or a single band surgery. One is described by using the determinant of a link. More precisely conditions are obtained on the determinant of a link so that the link is related to a 2-bridge knot by a single crossing change (Proposition 4.1) and a single band surgery (Theorem 4.2). Also the authors give such conditions using some special values of the polynomial invariants.
