Residual trace of Toeplitz or pseudodifferential projectors (Q505636)

The author reviews old and recent results concerning the so-called noncommutative residue, introduced by \textit{M. Wodzicki} [K-theory, arithmetic and geometry, Semin., Moscow Univ. 1984--86, Lect. Notes Math. 1289, 320--399 (1987; Zbl 0649.58033)]. New results are also presented, about projectors \(P\) with coefficients in a Toeplitz algebra of a contact manifold: if the degree of \(P\) is \(0\), then the noncommutative residue vanishes, whereas, as shown by a counterexample, this result is not necessarily true for projectors of degree \(\neq 0\).
