The authors consider the connection between MV-algebras and (dually) lattice-ordered semirings introduced by \textit{L. P. Belluce} et al. [ibid. 30, No. 1, 165--179 (2013; Zbl 1263.06004)]. A similar connection is found for basic algebras and semilattice-ordered right near-semirings. Also an analogous connection for orthomodular lattices and some semilattice-ordered near-semirings is established.
