The authors establish the so-called generalized Wintgen inequality for statistical submanifolds in statistical manifolds of constant sectional curvature. They used the notion of the sectional curvature of statistical manifolds defined by \textit{B. Opozda} [Ann. Global Anal. Geom. 48, No. 4, 357--395 (2015; Zbl 1333.53025); Linear Algebra Appl. 497, 134--161 (2016; Zbl 1338.53034)].
