This paper is concerned with the mathematical analysis of entire solutions of a class of quasilinear elliptic equation with positive potential and critical Sobolev exponent. The main result establishes the existence of positive ground state solutions. The proof combines a change of variables and related variational arguments. The study carried out in this paper is motivated by models arising in self-channeling of a high-power ultra short laser in matter.
