The paper deals with a non-rotational, subsonic flow-structure interaction describing the flow of gas above a flexible plate. Solutions to a coupled system of partial differential equations describing the interaction between the gas flows around a thin structure moving through the environment with a given velocity are studied. First the linearization of the problem is considered. Using perturbation theory, local-in-time existence and uniqueness for the nonlinear system are reduced to the well-posedness of the linearized model. Finally, global existence and uniqueness of solutions to the von Karman nonlinear flow-structure model are proved.
