The univariate Baskakov-Durrmeyer operators were investigated by \textit{A. Sahai} and \textit{G. Prasad} [J. Approximation Theory 45, 122--128 (1985; Zbl 0596.41035)] and \textit{M. Heilmann} [Approximation Theory Appl. 5, No. 1, 105--127 (1989; Zbl 0669.41014)]. In this paper, the authors introduce and study the multivariate Baskakov-Durrmeyer operators. By using a decomposition technique, they establish a strong direct inequality concerning the \(L^p\) approximation by these operators.
