The author studies the properties ``almost isometry-invariance'' and ``shading'' for subsets of the real line. He proves several theorems showing how the two properties are related. He also proves sum and difference set results for almost isometry-invariant sets and solves a problem due to R. Mabry involving subsets of Archimedean sets, partially addressed by him in a previous work.
