The author gives a new direct proof of a sextuple product identity depending on the Laurent expansion of an analytic function in an annulus. Many identities, including an identity for \((q;q)^4_{\infty})\), are obtained from this sextuple product identity. The identity is equivalent to Eq. (8.16) of [\textit{S. Kongsiriwong} and \textit{Z.-G. Liu}, Result. Math. 44, No. 3-4, 312--339 (2003; Zbl 1053.11015)] which was obtained from a more general identity.
