The author obtains a common fixed point theorem for a pair of weakly compatible maps on a cone metric space satisfying a Zamfirescu type contraction condition [\textit{T. Zamfirescu}, Arch. Math. 23, 292--298 (1972; Zbl 0239.54030)]. Some special cases are discussed.
