A modified Keller-Segel system consisting of a nonlinear degenerate parabolic convection-diffusion partial differential equation (p.d.e.) for the density of the cell-population and a parabolic p.d.e. for the chemoattractant concentration is considered. A finite volume scheme for solving this problem approximately is described. An a priori analysis of the discrete solution is done and the existence of a discrete solution is shown. The convergence of the discrete solution to a solution of the problem considered is proved. Numerical experiments illustrating the qualitative properties of the model and the influence of the diffusive degeneracy of the cell density are presented.
