Let \({\mathcal X}\), \({\mathcal Y}\) be smooth, projective, algebraic varieties defined over a number field \(k\). A morphism \(f: {\mathcal X}\to{\mathcal Y}\) defined over \(k\) which is proper, flat and its generic fibre is geometrically irreducible is called a fibration. In the paper under review, the authors describe the behaviour of the rank of the Mordell-Weil group of the Picard variety of the generic fibre of a fibration in terms of local contributions given by averaging traces of Frobenius acting on the fibres. An interesting consequence of these results is a reinterpretation of Tate's conjecture for divisors.
