Mit einer quantenmechanischen Rechnung wird eine Vermutung von \textit{Herzfeld} und \textit{Wolf} über den Einfluß, den die kontiuierliche Absorption des Heliums unter der 507A Grenze auf den brechungsindex im sichtbaren Gebiet ausübt, bestätigt. Dabei ergibt sich nebenbei der atomare Absorptionskoeffizient für Röntgenstrahlen.
