    Zerlagt man das Luftdruckfeld in drei Glieder: Einen zeitlich konstanten Bestandteil \(S(x,y)\), eine wandernde Störung konstanten Aufbaues \(g(x - \Omega t, y)\) und das eigentliche Störungsglied \(\varphi (x,y,t)\), und ist \(\Omega \) die Geschwindigkeit, mit der \(g\) der \textit{Ekholms}chen Regel entsprechend längs der Isobaren des Feldes \(S\) um dessen Kern herumwandert, so ergibt sich für die individuelle Änderung von \(\varphi \) der Ausdruck \[ \frac {d\varphi }{dt} = \Omega \frac {\partial P}{\partial x} + \frac {\partial P}{\partial t} = \tau (1 - \frac {\Omega }{\omega } \sin \Theta ), \] wo \(\tau \) die Tendenz, \(\Theta \) der Winkel zwischen \(x\)-Richtung (= Fortpflanzungsrichtung von \(g\)) und Isobare, \(\omega \) die Normalgeschwindigkeit der Isobare ist.
