    Es gibt zwei Möglichkeitenm, hypergeometrische Reihen mit zwei Veränderlichen zu definieren: den Ansatz \[ \begin{gathered} z=\int _g^h \prod _{i=1}^k (u-a_i)^{b_i -1} (u-x)^{\lambda -1} (u-y)^{\mu -1} du \\ (g, h \text{ zwei der Größen } \, a_1, \dots, a_k, x,y,\infty ) \end{gathered} \] oder die Reihendarstellung \[ z=\sum _{m,n} a_{mn} x^m y^n, \] wobei die \(a_{mn}\) gewissen Differenzengleichungen genügen. Verf. zeigt, daß die zweite Definition die erste umfaßt: Ist \(z\) durch das Integral definiert, so läßt sich \(z\) als Reihe schreiben, und die Differenzengleichung lautet \[ \sum _{i=0}^{k+1} ((\alpha +k+1-\lambda -\mu +\beta ) A_i -B_i \frac {(\alpha +i)! \varGamma (\alpha +k-\lambda +1)}{\alpha ! \varGamma (\alpha +i-\lambda +1)} a_{\alpha +i,\beta } =0 \] (die \(A_i\) und \(B_i\) hängen von den \(a_i\) ab).
