Es handelt sich um ein System von Interpolationsformeln für die Verteilungsfläche bei zwei Merkmalen. Ein Ansatz von \textit{K. Pearson} (Biometrika 17 (1925), 268-313 (F. d. M. 51, 389 (JFM 51.0389.*)), insbesondere S. 312) wird erweitert und in einem Punkte berichtigt. Die Fläche wird durch Facetten aus hyperbolischen Paraboloiden ersetzt.
