    Auf Grund schon bekannter Werke griechischer Mathematiker und ihrer Kommentatoren untersucht Verf. neuerdings die Fragen, die die Entstehung des Begriffs der Irrationalzahl und die Methoden zur Bestimmung ihrer Werte betreffen. Verf. kommt zu dem Ergebnis, daß die Kettenbrüche den antiken Mathematikern unbekannt geblieben sind. (III 9, IV 1.)
