    Verf. nennt einen Kern von positivem Typus in bezug auf eine Funktionenmenge \(H(s)\), wenn \[ \textstyle\iint K(s,t)\,h(s)\,h(t)\,ds\,dt\geqq 0 \] für jede Funktion \(h(s)\) der Menge \(H(s)\) ist. Verf. beweist dann den Satz, daß ein Kern \(K(s, t)\), der in eine Reihe \[ \textstyle \sum\limits_{i, j}\displaystyle a_{ij}\varPhi _i(s)\,\varPhi _j(t) \] von normierten Orthogonalfunktionen entwickelbar und von positivem Typus in bezug auf die Menge der Funktionen von der Form \[ c_\alpha \varPhi _\alpha (s)+c_\beta \varPhi _\beta (s) \] ist, mindestens einen endlichen Eigenwert hat, wenn der Kern noch gewisse Stetigkeitsbedingungen erfüllt.
