    \textit{Salem} hat 1931 (JFM 57.0316.*) notwendige und hinreichende Bedingungen dafür angegeben, daß \(\{a_n,b_n\}\) die \textit{Fourier}-Koeffizienten einer in \((0,2\pi)\) \(L\)-integrablen Funktion sind. Verf. gibt analog eine notwendige und hinreichende Bedingung dafür, daß \(F(x)\) die \textit{Fourier}-Transformierte einer in \((-\infty, +\infty)\) absolut integrablen Funktion bzw. einer Funktion aus \(L_p\) ist, d. h. deren \(p\)-te Potenz \((1<p \leqq 2)\) in \((-\infty, +\infty)\) integrabel ist. Dieses Resultat lautet: Eine notwendige und hinreichende Bedingung dafür, daß \(F(x)\) die \textit{Fourier}-Transformierte einer Funktion aus \(L_p\) \((1<p \leqq 2)\) ist, besteht in folgendem: (1) \(F(x)\) gehört zu \(L_{p'}\), \(p'= \dfrac{p}{p-1}\); (2) es gibt eine von der Unterteilung \(-\infty < x_1 < x_2 \ldots < x_n < \infty\) unabhängige Konstante \(C_F\), so daß \[ \sum_{k=1}^{n-1} \frac{\left| \dfrac{1}{\sqrt{2\pi}} \int\limits_{-\infty}^{+\infty} F(y) \dfrac{e^{ix_{k+1}y}- e^{ix_k y}} {iy} \, dy\right|^p} {(x_{k+1}-x_k)^{p-1}} \leqq C_F \] ist.
