Neoclassical energy confinement times in \(\ell =2\) stellarators and tokamaks with and without ripple are computed by Monte Carlo simulation over wide ranges of mean free paths, ratios of plasma to gyro radius, and radial electric fields. In parameter ranges which allow computation of a local neoclassical heat conduction, this quantity is also obtained by Monte Carlo simulation and related to the energy confinement. The plateau, \(\nu^{-1}\), \(\nu^{1/2}\), and \(\nu\) regimes are discussed.
