This investigation is concerned with the propagation of waves in a nonhomogeneous elastic medium due to a time-dependent shearing force applied at the boundary of a hemispherical cavity. It is assumed that the rigidity modulus of the material is proportional to an arbitrary power of the radial distance from the centre of the cavity. Expressions for the stresses and displacements have been obtained and variations of stresses with positions and time have been shown graphically.
