The framework of the physically nonlinear theory of elasticity is used to formulate and solve plane contact problems for a half-plane and a strip of finite depth, prestressed by the action of longitudinal, uniformly distributed forces applied. The cases of loss of stability in the medium induced by prestressing are studied and the influence of the prestressing mode on the magnitude of the contact pressures is investigated.
