In 1976 it was shown by Diederich and Fornaess that not every smoothly bounded pseudoconvex domain has a Stein neighborhood basis. In this paper the author defines two weaker notions of the concept of Stein neighborhood basis and asks whether every smoothly bounded pseudoconvex domain has a basis in one of these weaker senses. The answer in both cases is no.
