The author considers the normal-mode model arising from the equation of ideal MHD, which is highly nonlinear in the eigenvalue parameter. By linearizing about a prescribed value of that parameter, the equations of the normal-mode model can be expressed as a Schrödinger equation with piecewise uniform coefficients. Using standard techniques to obtain reflection and transmission coefficients, he in addition shows the possibility of total transmission of an incident wave and the existence of other total transmission energy levels which have no counterpart in the absence of a magnetic field.
