The solutions of Fredholm integral equations as well as certain functionals on the solutions are discussed. The basic functions b and h which occur as solutions of a linear two-point boundary value problem pose a problem of stability. It is shown that the problem can be solved by using a Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization scheme.
