A conditionally stable explicit scheme is developed and applied to the ocean acoustic parabolic wave equation. The scheme is leapfrogged in the range variable and centered-differenced in the vertical variable. The theoretical development, the computational aspects and the advantage of the scheme are discussed. The method is ideal for vector computers.
