Let S be a differentiable semigroup in which the multiplication is \(C^ k\) for \(k\geq 2\). It is shown that if the boundary of S is smooth and contains the unit element 1, then the maximal subgroup containing 1 is a \(C^ k\) group and is an open subgroup of the boundary.
