A differential ring is called special if the radical of every differential ideal is again differential. A Kolchin scheme is by definition a ringed space obtained from a special differential ring by providing its differential spectrum with a suitable sheaf of rings, in such a way that this passage from rings to schemes, as well as from ring- modules to quasi-coherent scheme-modules, are equivalences of categories.
