    This book is the first in a series announced by the authors to cover various aspects of fluid dynamics. The approach is analytical, requiring basic knowledge of mathematical relations.NEWLINENEWLINEThe first chapter deals with the basics. The step-by-step development of the concepts will be helpful to readers. It presents thermodynamics, constitutive equations and equations of motion. The important similarity parameters are introduced. A section on curvilinear coordinates, which normally appears as appendix in textbooks, is included as the last section in this chapter. The next chapter begins with exact solutions of Navier-Stokes equations. A section on numerical solutions is added to study the flow past a circular cylinder. The third chapter includes the introduction of conformal mappings and the Joukovskii transformation for the potential flow. Some applications to aerofoils, free streamline theory and two-dimensional inviscid jets are explained. The last chapter includes compressible flows. It encompasses integrals of motion and the method of characteristics. Shock waves, supersonic flows and unsteady flows are also included in this chapter.NEWLINENEWLINEThe reader is made aware of inherent difficulties in solving the fluid flow problems. An interesting feature is a collection of problems at the end of each section. These will be helpful for the graduate students in getting familiar with the working principles of fluid dynamics. This reviewer finds the book to be a desirable addition to the existing textbooks.
