The paper deals with a new family of generalized Laguerre polynomials which are orthogonal on the half line with respect to the weight function \(\omega_{\alpha,\beta} (\rho) = \rho^\alpha e^{-\beta \rho}\). The authors derive orthogonal projections and approximation results as well as a spectral scheme proposed for a three dimensional model problem.
