The authors consider several control problems involving application of linear feedback laws to linear autonomous systems in order to achieve certain properties of the controllability sets and the stability of the resulting system. These problems are converted into matrix-theoretic problems involving essential nonnegativity, irreducibility, and M- matrices, and then solved via linear programming and graph-theoretic methods.
