An \(n\times n\) real matrix is called an N-matrix if all of its principal minors are negative. The authors develop a characterization of N-matrices which is geometric in nature and similar in spirit to that of the sign- reversal property of P-matrices. They also obtain a characterization using the linear complementarity problem. In addition they give a characterization of weak N-matrices.
