A horizontal porous layer saturated by a fluid having the Boussinesq's equation of state is considered. Using the Brinkman model, the authors study the case when the fluid is subject to both temperature and salinity gradients. The method of equivalent Rayleigh numbers is employed to investigate finger and diffusive instabilities. It is also proved that anisotropy discourages the stability except for a small range of the values of the parameters.
