The aim of the present paper is to give an elementary and essential self-contained proof of a well-known result of \textit{R. G. Swan} [J. Algebra 67, 210--229 (1980; Zbl 0473.13001)], which states that a reduced ring \(R\) is seminormal if and only if the canonical map from Pic \(R\) to Pic \(R[X]\) is an isomorphism. There are also generalized some previous results on this subject due to \textit{C. Traverso} [Ann. Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa, Sci. Fis. Mat., III. Ser. 24, 585--595 (1970; Zbl 0205.50501)].
