A mechanical connection on the group of volume-preserving diffeomorphisms (Q5899743)

Let M be a compact orientable Riemannian manifold with a boundary, and let \(D^ s_{\mu}(M)\) be the Hilbert manifold of volume preserving diffeomorphisms of M of the Sobolev class \(H^ s\), \(s>(\dim M/2)+1.\) The authors give a geometric construction in terms of \(D^ s_{\mu}(M)\) of an equation describing the motion of the ideal incompressible fluid on M. A modification of this equation gives also an equation for the motion of the ideal incompressible fluid in the presence of additional force.
