This is the seventh edition of \textit{S. Bosch's} textbook on basic abstract algebra. Already the first edition [Algebra (Algebra). Springer-Lehrbuch. Berlin: Springer-Verlag (1993; Zbl 0781.00001 ME 1994e.02144)], published in 1993 under the same title, quickly gained a great popularity among students and instructors at German universities, and that to such an extent that virtually every two years a new edition became appropriate ever since. All the further editions of this text, during the past sixteen years, appeared in revised, sometimes slightly extended, and always further improved form, as it has been pointed out in the respective earlier reviews of the book [Algebra. 2., überarb. Aufl. (1996; Zbl 0845.00001); Algebra. 4., überarb. Aufl. (2001; Zbl 0996.00002 ME2002a.00600); Algebra. 5., überarbeitete Aufl. (2004; Zbl 1037.00002 ME 2011d.00656); Algebra. 6th ed. (2006; Zbl 1104.00001)]. An Italian version of this textbook was published in [Unitext. Milano: Springer Verlag (2003; Zbl 1103.00001)], thereby making it a standard primer of algebra at Italian universities, too. As for the current seventh edition of this well-tried text, the author has again put forward some minor additions and polishing alterations, but otherwise left the exposition of the foregoing sixth edition from 2006 fully intact. Concerning both the precise contents and the outstanding features of this bestselling textbook of algebra, we may therefore refer to previous reviews of it, preferably to our more detailed review of the fifth edition (2004; Zbl 1037.00002), cited above. No doubt, a translation into English of this utmost successful algebra text should be taken into consideration, as such an undertaking would be just as worthwile as deserved.
