The migratory dynamics for a population migrating between L regions is described on the stochastic level by a master equation and on the quasi- deterministic level by mean value equations. Within that frame a dynamic model for sudden growth of metropoles is introduced, which explains this phenomenon by a migratory phase transition: If the agglomeration parameter \(\kappa\) of the population passes a critical value, the homogeneous distribution over primordially equivalent regions becomes instable and exactly one metropole attracting the majority of people emerges in one of the regions. The dynamics of this process is analyzed by analytical investigation as well as by computer solution of the model.
