Thompson conjectured that in any non-Abelian finite simple group \(G\) there exists a class of conjugate elements \(C\) such that \(C^2=G\). The author verifies this conjecture for the majority of groups from the series \(\text{PSL}_n(q)\), namely for \(q\leq n+3\). This conjecture is also verified for the alternating groups.
