The main results give reasonable lower bounds for the number of solutions of equations like \(\sum_{j=1}^ s a_ j p_ j^ k=b\) in odd primes \(p_ 1,\dots, p_ s\) under certain technical conditions. The argument is based upon elementary congruences and trigonometric sums.
