The condenser problem is studied in the context of balayage spaces. It is extended to a ``fine'' condenser problem for arbitrary sets involving the (essential) base. New proofs of existence and uniqueness are presented. Moreover, a construction by series of iterated balayages and a probabilistic interpretation using the penetration time are given.
