The main part of the paper deals with the situation when remainders of all compactifications of a topological group \(X\) are pseudocompact. It is the case if, e.g., \(X\) is pseudocompact, or \(X\) is nonmetrizable and such that every of its compact subspaces is scattered. A similar situation, when pseudocompactness is replaced by countable compactness is also investigated. Mappings preserving, in some sense, the dense-in-itself property are used rather often in the investigation.
