The authors present a certain Lyapunov functional for the FitzHugh-Nagumo equations. They draw some immediate consequences for the structure of the attractor. Some limiting cases (when one diffusion parameter is \(0\) or is tending to \(+\infty\)) are also investigated. In these cases, a complete description of the type of stationary solutions that may be stable is given.
